Current Open Position: Research Scientist-Assay Development

Description

Aurora Biolabs (ABL) is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Research Scientist specializing in assay development to join our team. The individual will play a critical role in advancing our pipeline of recombinant protein products for drug discovery and commercial applications. This position requires a PhD in a relevant field and extensive experience in assay development, with a strong emphasis on creativity, technical expertise, and collaborative research.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate novel assays to support drug discovery and development projects.

  • Conduct high-throughput screening (HTS) and other assay formats to evaluate the biological activity of recombinant proteins.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including molecular biology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics, to integrate assay development efforts with broader research goals.

  • Optimize and troubleshoot existing assays to improve sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.

  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets, providing clear and concise reports to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in assay technologies and methodologies, incorporating best practices into ongoing projects.

  • Mentor and supervise junior scientists and research associates, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment.

  • Prepare and present research findings at internal meetings, scientific conferences, and in peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications & Skills

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience in assay development, with a strong track record of success in designing and validating innovative assays.

  • Proficiency in a wide range of assay technologies, including ELISA, luminescence/fluorescence-based assays, cell-based assays, and biochemical assays.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex data sets and draw meaningful conclusions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Opening Position: Post-Doc/Scientist

Description

The candidate will join our fast paced research group in protein biochemistry and recombinant DNA technology. The position entails producing and expressing recombinant proteins to support crystallographic efforts for co-crystal structure determination with clients’ compounds and our fragment library.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years experience in the following areas:

  • Cloning including PCR, restriction analysis, DNA sequencing, primer and vector design of clones for use in E. coli and/or baculovirus expression systems. Experienceith Baculovirus cell cultures (including Wave bioreactor fermentations) and transfection techniques a plus.

  • Protein expression analysis, optimization, and scale-up using bioreactors.

  • Design and execute protein purification and characterization protocols to obtain the best protein for the project.

  • Protein purification of recombinant proteins including but not limited to: His-tag, GST-tag, Maltose affinity purification, Ion Exchange, Hydrophobic Interaction, Size Exclusion.

  • Protein refolding.

  • Purification of untagged proteins.

  • Western blotting and SDS-PAGE techniques.

  • Assay Development: Fluorescence, TRF, Luminescence, PF, Couple assay.

  • Working knowledge of Bioinformatics and databases would be helpful.

Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate will have the following background/skill sets:

  • Ph.D., or Masters, in molecular biology, biochemistry, or the equivalent knowledge and experience, is required.

  • Must be highly organized, motivated and able to work independently in a collaborative team-oriented setting.

Current Open Position: Research Associate I

Description

Aurora Biolabs, LLC is seeking a motivated research associate I in cell and molecular biology, biochemistry or related field in San Diego, CA.

The individual will be a critical part of our products development team, development a new line of recombinant protein products for drug discovery and commercial use. This position requires extensive hands-on experience with a broad range of techniques including protein expression and purification, molecular cloning, PCR, mammalian cell, insect cells and bacterial culture, ELISA, as well as in vitro cell-based/immuno-based assays.

You will work in an atmosphere that is stimulating, innovative, and customer focused.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting scientific staff in carrying out research assignments involving a variety of laboratory methods, equipment and procedures.

  • Conducts basic laboratory bench experiments.

  • Participates in analysis and organization of data for presentations.

  • Writes experimental summaries and technical reports for own data.

  • Completes paperwork by assigned completion dates.

  • Carries out assigned laboratory tasks.

  • Monitor and maintain laboratory notebooks

  • Operate lab equipment and perform routine maintenance/repair

  • Routine lab maintenance activities (i.e. buffer and reagent preparation, glassware, etc.)

  • Day-to-day problem solving and cross-functional team-based activities to ensure daily operations and timelines are met.

Qualifications & Skills

Skills: - Experience with protein expression and purification in bacterial culture, His-tagged, GST-tagged protein purification preferred.

Opening Position: Research Associate II

Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Perform protein expression and purification in bacterial culture, insect cells or mammalian cell system, including antibody and HIS-tagged, GST-tagged protein purification, as well as related molecular techniques.

- Small, moderate or large scale antibody/protein production and purification in suspension bacterial or insect cells or mammalian system.

- Perform molecular cloning techniques and aid in construction of phage display libraries.

- Characterize engineered proteins through WB, ELISA, and in vitro assays; affinity measurement through ELISA, assay development for validation of antibody constructs and/or targets.

- Routine lab maintenance activities (i.e. buffer and reagent preparation, glassware, etc.)

- Day-to-day problem solving and cross-functional team-based activities to ensure daily operations and timelines are met.

Qualifications

- BS or MS degree in life science with at least 2-3 years of laboratory research.

- Priority for candidates with new production preparation and/or engineering experience; including design and execution of experiments for cloning and large-scale expression of proteins from any source.

- Must be proficient in aseptic cell culture technique.

- Highly organized with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills

- Highly self-motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and a collaborative spirit

- Ability to learn new skills quickly, and demonstrate initiative and follow-through in problem-solving. Must be able to work independently with supervision as needed.

Position Responsibility

Meeting or surpassing expected sales goals by executing a sales strategy

Creating online and physical ads/flyers as well as identifying sales opportunities

Managing websites and updating product details and listings based on stock

Setting up and monitoring online sales accounts on several e-commerce websites like Amazon and eBay

Maintaining records of sales data and current stock of products available

Following/Researching current trends of the market and using leads to make sales

Giving effective and professional sales presentations to a range of prospective clients

Educate and sell the product online or on site to research facilities, pharma, biotech firms, and research institutes

Promoting positive customer relations via e-mail or other forms of communication

Qualifications & Skills
