Human MST1 is a stress-activated pro-apoptotic kinase, which upon activation induces chromatin condensation and internucleosomal DNA fragmentation. It is a key component of the Hippo signaling pathway which regulates organ size control and tumor suppression. Dysregulation of MST1 is linked to various cancers with poor prognosis. It therefore has proven potential to be a therapeutic target and diagnostic biomarker.
