A member of the CMGC class of serine/threonine protein kinases, acting in cell cycle progression. Cyclin A2 stimulates CDK2 kinase activity upon complex formation, this complex is essential for cell cycle G1⁄S phase transition. The further study of this complex and its regulation is a popular target for new potential cancer treatments.
