Sortase A is an enzyme belonging to the C60 transpeptidase family. It is plays a significant role in cell wall sorting for Gram-positive bacteria, by catalyzing the covalent anchoring of surface proteins. In a research setting, Sortase A is an essential tool for peptide-protein conjugation. SortaseA cleaves between the threonine and glycine in a C-terminal LPXTG recognition motif, before joining the carboxyl group of threonine to the amino group of an N-terminal glycine of the target molecule.
