Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is a potent mediator of both angiogenesis and vesculogenesis in the fetus and adult. It stimulates proliferation and survival of endothelial cells and promotes angiogenesis and vascular permeability. VEGF is a secreted homodimeric protein secreted by a variety of vascularized tissues. Human recombinant VEGF165 is a 38.2 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric protein consisting of two 165 amino acid polypeptide chain.
